The Net: Bullseye!

With Andy Godfrey taken ill with a sever case of man flue, it was time to use plan B.
I tried to avoid phrases like;

“Stay out of the black and into the red, Nothing in this game for two in a bed.”
“Look at what you could have won.”
“And Bully’s Special Priiiiize…”
“Now the cash you won for charity earlier… that’s safe.”
“Super, smashing, great.” (somewhat apocryphal)
“Iiiiiiin one…”
“You win nothing but your BFH… Bus Fare Home”

as we played our own version of the classic TV quiz game Bullseye.
No-one won a speedboat but I hope all who came enjoyed a good night out.

I spoke on the topic, “Hitting your target!” and with little time to prepare quiz and talk, I really felt God’s help in the message given.

Evangelism at Speakers Corner

Evangelism at Speakers Corner, Hyde Park, London with Jamie Broadey.

“A word to the wise is infuriating.” – Hunter S. Thompson

Speakers Corner in London’s Hyde Park is the oldest free speech platform in the world. People won the right to speak in mass protests in the 1860s and early 1870s. Some people believe the tradition is connected to the right of the condemned to a last speech before being hung at the Tyburn gallows, a practice that stopped at the end of the 18th century. Every Sunday people from all sorts of convictions come to Hyde Park in the afternoon to spead their message or to have fun.

Harvest Supper

Looking forward to some good food and good conversation with the folk at WEC.

What: Harvest Supper.
Where: West End Chapel. Fareham. Hants.
What: Giving a short talk/epilogue.

Harvest is from the Anglo-Saxon word hærfest, “Autumn”.
Farmers celebrated the end of the harvest with a big meal called a harvest supper. Some churches and villages still have a Harvest Supper.

The modern British tradition of celebrating Harvest Festival in churches began in 1843, when the Reverend Robert Hawker invited parishioners to a special thanksgiving service at his church at Morwenstow in Cornwall. Victorian hymns such as “We plough the fields and scatter”, “Come ye thankful people, come” and “All things bright and beautiful” helped popularise his idea of harvest festival and spread the annual custom of decorating churches with home-grown produce for the Harvest Festival service.
